Would you like to try a different type of brownie? Have you ever tried Malt Brownies? If you like fudgy brownies then these are a must try!
Ingredients
-
1/4 cup Boiling Water
-
1/4 cup Dutch Process Cocoa or Black Cocoa Powder
-
1 cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate chips or coarsely chopped Chocolate
-
6 tablespoons Butter, cut into chunks
-
1/4 cup Vegetable Oil
-
1/2 cup, plus 2 tbsps. Granulated Sugar
-
1/2 cup packed Brown Sugar
-
1 large Egg
-
2 large Egg Yolks
-
2 tsps. Vanilla Extract
-
3/4 cup All-Purpose Flour
-
4 heaping tbsps. Malt Powder
-
1 tsps. Salt
-
1 cup Milk Chocolate Chips
Directions
Preheat your oven to 350ºF. Spray an 8 x 8 inch square pan, or Halloween shaped pan with cooking spray.
Fill a measuring cup with boiling water, add the cocoa powder and stir. This is blooming the cocoa. (This will bring out the flavor of the cocoa)
In a large microwave safe bowl, add the butter and the semisweet chocolate. Microwave for 1 minute, stirring, microwave again for 30 seconds, stirring again. If the butter and chocolate are not yet melted, microwave at 15 second intervals, stirring in-between each time until both the butter and chocolate are smooth.
Whisk in the oil, the add in the cocoa powder. Whisk until well combined.
Add both of the sugars, whisking the mixture until completely combined.
Add the whole egg, egg yolks, and vanilla continuing to whisk briskly until the mixture looks creamy and glossy.
Add the flour, malt powder, and salt, whisking slowly until all ingredients are combined. Then, whisk the batter vigorously for 1 minute, until it is very thick.
Fold in the milk chocolate with a spatula.
Pour the batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly into all the corners.
Bake the brownies for 25-30 minutes, until the surface is shiny and puffed and the center is dry to the touch but still soft when pressed or test with a toothpick. Some brownie will stick, just make sure there is no gooey batter on the toothpick.
Let them cool and either enjoy, or use Royal Icing or Cookie Icing (pre made icing available in the store) to decorate.
Enjoy!
